SPORT IN THE NORTHLANDS
The Company is now based in the North Highlands, in the South-East corner of Caithness where a wide variety of gamefishing, gameshooting, wildfowling and deerstalking is available. This is no longer the remote, inaccessible place of yesteryear. A 2 hour drive from Inverness will take you to most parts of Caithness and North Sutherland. Flights to Inverness are available from most UK airports and the delightful little airport at Wick has many convenient links. A range of suitable vehicles is available for hire at both.
A number of very successful mixed programmes of shooting and fishing have been organised over recent seasons as the Northlands are particularly well suited to this.
A typical mixed shooting package could include 2 morning flights at geese over decoys, 2 evening flights at duck, a day at superb driven pheasants or partridge, a mixed walk-up day of all species, a special woodcock day and walked-up and ferreted rabbits in between times. Coupled with a range of modestly priced accommodation, this makes a wonderful sporting winter break for a group of 2 to 8 guns for whom 3 to 6 day programmes are tailor-made.
For the angler the possibilities are endless - there are 10 rivers providing Spring salmon, Summer grilse and Autumn salmon. Many hundreds of wild brown trout lochs are scattered through the area plus exciting sea trout fishing in the saltwater and estuaries. For the sea angler the Pentland and Moray Firths produce the finest range of species and sport in the UK with a range of charter and small boats available as well as good beach and shore opportunities.
From classy sporting lodges to modest B&Bs there is a wide range of places to stay and John Andrews will be happy to tailor an exciting programme to suit the wishes of groups from 2 to 12 in number to enjoy the glorious solitude of this lovely land of pure air and wide horizons.
